Achilles Group was named after Achilles, the mightiest of the Greeks who fought in the Trojan War. Achilles' mother attempted to make her son immortal by holding the young Achilles by the heel and dipping him in the river Styx. Everything that touched the sacred waters became invulnerable. But Achilles' heel remained dry, and therefore unprotected.
He fought the Trojans heroically at the city of Troy, but Achilles was wounded in the heel with an arrow, and later died of the injury.
Just as Achilles' heel was his vulnerable spot, human resource management is often the area of a business most prone to vulnerability and liability.
Compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, documenting and managing employee behaviors, hiring and firing within legal guidelines and avoiding employee complaints and lawsuits are just a few examples of potential vulnerabilities confronted by every employer. |
